Ha means sun, Tha means moon. Hatha is a poetic way of saying opposites. Yoga means to join or to ‘yoke’, as in yoking a horse to a plow. So Hatha Yoga is the idea of joining the sun and the moon, joining opposites in union. In yoga we join the inhalation and the expiration of our breath. We join forward bending movements with backward bending ones. And we join the movement of our physical body with the aspiration of having a more spiritual connection.
Hatha yoga, sometimes known as a ‘soft style’ of yoga, is a very effective yoga practice and is a main part of what we teach at our yoga classes from AgeLess Yoga in St. Cloud.
